Honoring Veterans: Cultivating New Beginnings on the Farm
For those in agriculture who have served or continue serving our country as members of the U.S. armed forces, connecting with resources to find success in their next venture doesn’t have to be challenging.
The Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC) – a pioneering force in the military-to-agriculture movement – represents more than 30,000 members, including active duty, reserve, retired and National Guard service members from all branches of the military.
FVC chapters across the U.S. provide a broad range of programs and services designed to equip veterans with the tools they need to succeed in agriculture.
In addition to supporting veterans who choose to pursue a career in farming or other agriculture-related field with financial services, Compeer has a strong partnership with FVC. Our team members actively support the Coalition’s efforts through representation on the boards of directors for chapters in each of the three states in our territory – Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. This helps Compeer understand first-hand how we can continue to provide FVC value, beyond our annual financial commitments through Compeer’s Fund for Rural America.
FVC Resources
FVC is committed to leveraging its extensive network of partnerships to effectively support a greater number of veterans – particularly those beginning their civilian careers. They recognize the range of opportunities that exist in agriculture, encouraging both employment and self-employment, while respecting the privacy and unique challenges faced by veterans.
Through FVC, veteran farmers have access to training, education, employment opportunities, business development services and marketing strategies. FVC also fosters a sense of community through national and state conferences, partnerships with government and nonprofit organizations, and mentorship connections.
FVC flagship programs include the following:
- Homegrown By Heroes: A branding initiative that distinguishes veteran-produced products in the marketplace.
- Farmer Veteran Fellowship Fund: Grants that provide assistance to veterans in their farming endeavors.
- Geared to Give: A program run by Kubota that donates equipment to veteran farmers.
“The Farmer Veteran Coalition is a tremendous resource for the brave men and women who have chosen to protect our country,” said Compeer President and CEO Jase Wagner. “Through considerable effort and in partnership with others, the Coalition is building a supportive network that enhances the success of veteran farmers. I’m thankful Compeer has the opportunity to be a part of that.”
