Compeer Financial Awards over $35K in Farmers Market Grants
38 Grants Awarded to Farmers and Farmers Markets in IL, MN and WI
Sun Prairie, Wis., (January 22, 2020) – Compeer Financial’s Fund for Rural America, the Farm Credit cooperative’s giving program, has awarded 38 Farmers Market Grants, totaling $35,500. This is the second year that Farmers Market Grants have been offered by Compeer Financial.
The grants are supporting 33 farmers market organizations, with funding up to $1,000 for marketing, technology or educational efforts. Five farmer vendors received up to $500. These grants will directly impact the lives of approximately 1,000 people. The Fund will offer this grant again in the fall to provide funding for 2021.
“Through the Farmers Market Grants, we want to recognize the asset that Farmers Markets are to their communities,” said Karen Schieler, Senior Corporate Giving Specialist. “Farmers markets help make fresh, healthy foods available in a way that is accessible and direct for consumers, which is a major contribution to the communities Compeer serves.”
